Welcome!
Thanks for stopping by our showcase of the various projects we encounter in the University of Arkansas Libraries.

Whether it is a bespoke housing for an unusual artifact, paper repair on a fragile but noteworthy document, or measures to slow degradation of materials, each project challenges us to think in different ways to find suitable solutions. The objects each have a narrative of their own, and our preservation work seeks to maintain the physical impact of each object’s narrative as much as possible as well as ensure their physical stability and longevity.

“The ultimate aim of conservation is not to conserve material for its own sake but, rather, to maintain (and shape) the values embodied by the heritage—with physical intervention or treatment being one of many means toward that end.”

Avrami, Mason, and de la Torre, 2000
