The American Institute for Conservation (AIC) is hosting Ask A Conservator Day today, November 18th. The day is meant to raise awareness about conservation, and conservators around the world will be participating on social media (follow the #AskAConservator hashtag across Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to see what’s being posted and discussed by others).
For a bit of background on what a conservator does, check out this video by Lucilla Ronai, a professional paper conservator.
The AIC explains the reason for the November event on their website: “…in remembrance of the flooding of Florence on November 4th, 1966, which damaged priceless cultural heritage. However, in response to the catastrophe, incredible efforts were made—and are still being undertaken—to conserve the items impacted by the flood.” We posted about the flood on Instagram earlier this month:
We’re also participating in #AskAConservator Day, and invite your questions! You can connect with us on Instagram, or ask a question in the comment box below.
Although today is specifically set aside for conservation questions, feel free to ask us questions any day. We’re happy to share what we know and spread knowledge about our work!
